With help of State Welfare Commission, Sikkim, India and kind support of the chair person Ms Indira Pradhan, 8 complicated patients were operated at Mechi Netralaya & Ophthalmic Reserach Center (P) Ltd, Kakarvitta, NEPAL.

With this mission of altruistic community service, Dr. Sharad C. Rai established MNORC in the year 2007 with 15 beds and 11 staff members. Since this humble beginning, today Mechi Netralaya has grown in leaps and bounds to establish itself as the Centre of Excellence in Vitreo-Retina,Topical Phacoemulsification and Reconstructive Ocular surgeries in the eastern region of Nepal.
